YOUNGSTOWN — City police have an 18-year-old man in custody in the Jan. 23 murder and robbery of Angeline Fimognari, 80, who was killed during an apparent robbery after she left morning services around 8:45 a.m. at St. Dominic Church, 77 E. Lucius Ave.
Jamar Houser, also known as “Mook,” of 2704 Volney Road, was arrested without incident at 7:54 p.m. at Market Street and Philadelphia Avenue and taken to the Youngstown City Police Department for questioning.
Fimognari was shot in the head in the church parking lot. Her purse was missing, leading police to believe she was a victim of robbery turned deadly.
Comments
Jamar Houser, 18, Volney Road, improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation and aggravated menacing.
That was back last year - an indictment with his name.
Why was this guy out on the streets?
Oddly his name also appears on a missing children bulletin for Ohio:
http://www.mcc.ag.state.oh.us/pdf/sta...
Is this guy even who he says he is?
http://courts.mahoningcountyoh.gov/pa...
Open case for him.....
A closed case for stalking:

A civil suit from 2001 involving his parents:

Good job, YPD!
paulb: Wonder what his juvenile file looks like? Looks like the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree in this family. Appears Dad & brother are familiar with the court system.
Hope the prosecution dot's the i's and crosses all the t's on this one so justice can be served.
Good job YPD!
Now let's work on the Boone/ Parker case and and find the guy that killed these 4 people.
Hopefully the investigators have information that conclusively links this guy without a doubt. Even, criminals shouldn't be falsely accused.
If they have the perp, then I say it's about time, good work and thank you.
What really disturbs me is this guy's open case for discharging a firearm into an occupied home. That's pretty menacing, very stupid and certainly a serious felony. I wonder how this guy was out on bond with those charges?
They need to revise bond release policies for shoot em' ups, serious felonies and where the perp has known street crime background. It would have prevented the murder of a good law abiding citizen. Time for some reform.
they didn't say he pulled the trigger ... he could have been an accomplice or withholding information. you all are so eager for an excuse to bash blacks so let's just pretend there's no such thing as due process and presumption of innocence so that suburbanites can be excusably racist.
meanwhile, no information on murder #1 of the year.
Didn't see one mention of race in the previous comments.
Any accomplice is just as guilty!
I'm so sick of people pulling the Race Card..Get over yourself.. I dont care if someone is white ,black or freaking purple. Justice is justice!
Oh No....Afraid of just that--OUT ON BOUND. And now a wonderful lady is gone, because some JUDGE, LAWYER, WHOEVER messed up big time.
What a shame!!!
If you want people like him to STAY in jail, how about voting YES on the tax increases for the Police Service once and awhile, you bitch that the police can't lock all these violent offenders up or when they take hours to show up on a call, but you turn around and defeat every tax levy that would pay for these services.
You can't have it both ways.
North_side_girl... what are you talking about?
You should be happy that YPD is working to remove a psychotic killer from our city streets, instead you're rambling about racist bu**sh*t!
We don't care what color the S.O.B is, we just want him locked up so our families are safe!!
YOU ARE THE RACIST!!
fry him he dont even care about nothing at all or respect any one.
Agree@LT Mac...Everybody wants protection but no one wants to pay for it!
If he is guilty, lock him up. I just hope the police do their job and not rush to grab someone to appease public outcrt...else you could end up with a case like this...
http://www.vindy.com/news/2010/jan/30...
Tahnee Jackson & Sierra Slaton deserve better than this!
They should take his arse down to the center of town and hang him right there after a short guilty verdit trial. Just another example of the low moral value the gangsta community puts on life in Youngstown.
LtMac---I wouldn't blame the police for not keeping these idiots locked up---it's the lawyers, judges, and prosecuters. The voters need to send a message to these office holders that enough's enough. This is unbelievable---
How sad that an 18 yr old resorted to robbing an elderly lady for some change & then murdering her. THAT is the problem here...not the color of his skin!
It disturbs me that he is a CHILD. Legal age of an adult but really just a child. This country has gone to hell in a handbasket when kids are more dangerous than grown adults!
It is so sad to see how many of our young men of today are resorting to violence, guns, drugs, and gangs. They are creating havoc within society in cities throughout America and are sucking in more and more youngsters every year. People from other countries only frown and shake their heads as they look down on our nation for allowing this to happen to ourselves. We have lost control of our children. Where will we be in 10 years from now?
Why is it we continue to look the other way, too ignore the problem, and hope things will improve over time?
I recall a time, if a young man got into trouble the judge would order him sent into the military to straighten him out. Now, our military will not even take these thugs of today. So, they have become worthless to society and are on the road to prison, death or living under a bridge in a cardboard box.
What a great job we have done. This is costing all of us a lot of money, the degregation of our society and we cannot look the other way anymore or say or think it is not affecting me, because it does affect you and me. The loss of this poor woman is just one example of what we have done.
I believe complaining equals caring. Everyone on here, (with the exception of the extremely racist, ignorant comment posted) does still care about Youngstown and does not want to be in the news as Murder City... But change doesn't happen over night, nor does it occur when we have no money for our police to even receive a salary, or even patrol the streets. We have to foster a positive community, it starts with banding together neighbors, knowing each other on the block and generally starting to give back to the community.
No, I doubt we can pass a levy with our state of being at this time but we can at least start but giving back to the city.
I say this just to inform you of the Block Watch meeting for the Southside area directly impacted by this murder (and the other few).
If you can, please go.
February 3rd, 6pm Newport library.
Power is found in numbers. Lets all give the city a message- we want things to improve...
Jackrr, I will pray one day your eyes will open and learn there we are all the same people, regardless of color. Also, maybe a trip to highly improvised areas, with mostly your own demographic (I'm assuming you're the other race, given your statement) committing crimes exactly such as this will make you realize poverty, violence and crime know no color, race or creed.
Good Job YPD !
North side girl give the race card a rest, its getting old.If Jamar Houser is found guilty,he should get the death sentence and not live 20 years due to appeals.
Thank You YPD
yes, good job ypd, and thanks also to anyone who may have helped the police.
The only thing certain is that Jamar Houser has been picked up . He is still a long way from being convicted let alone getting sentenced to death . His friends could kill any potential witnesses or snitches . Getting him off the street may have been the easy part . Plenty more like him who have killed may still loose . The next victim of Southside criminals may just be hours away from destiny .
Well said Stan . You are right look what happened in Elyria Oh.The gang came right into court and intimidated the witness. This was just last week
Great Job YPD
LtMac, you are correct, people need to support the levies and taxes to provide police services. The citizens of the community also need to show their support of the victim by showing up in numbers during all the court sessions and filling them to capacity, telling these judges, prosecutors, and lawyers that we have had enough. Tell them we want maximum bonds, a trial that finds this thug guilty without a reasonable doubt, and the death sentence without this thug languishing in prison on appeals. And if they do not perform vote them out of office.
"We have lost control of our children. Where will we be in 10 years from now?"
As long as you still have no jobs in the area, terrible public schools, and the continuing drug war, crime will continue. The inner city of Youngstown has been in meltdown mode since the 1980s. It is likely to continue on that route.
Hey South-Side-Girl,
Get a life w/the Racist card. Your probably the Biggest Racist in Youngstown. So do us all a favor & Shut The Fuc up..
Also, SemperTyrannis,
No, "We" have not lost control of "Our" Children.. The Young mothers who have 4 & 5 Children with 4 or 5 different fathers are the ones who lost control. Please, dont lump everyone else into your broad & incorrect statement. Check it out people, most of these little Punks dont even know their father let alone have one. I'm not making an excuse for them at all. This Punk, needs to be put to Death !! The Judge that let him out on Bond needs to be RePlaced. Thats where the public comes in. Vote that Judge OUT !! That will start getting these Judges attention. These Judges & Prosecutors are so Lenient on these Thugs it makes me Sick.. The public needs to stand up & voice their Displeasure !!! Remember, the Judges & Prosecutors 1st priority should be to "Protect the Public" !!!
Well, I ask you, did the Judge & Prosecutors protect this poor old lady ? I think NOT !!
As for these Punks / Thugs, Their tough guys when they have a gun in their hand. They carry because they know they would get their As_es Kicked.. Yah, bunch of tough guys !!!
Hey Prosecutors / Judge(s)
Try Not To Screw This Up !!!!
ImUrPo well said.
North_side_girl, Who shot and permanently paralyzed Joe Kaluza? He's now a quadro-paraplegic. That means he's paralyzed from the neck down, north_side_girl. Were the three criminals who committed this senseless crime for $300.00 white anglo-saxon protestants?
Who's the racist? Is it you?
Southside Girl,
The sick racists on this board, who look at blacks as genetically criminal, will never help Y Town. Instead, they write blogs about how much the city sucks, or constantly post about the "savages" (read blacks) who live here must be killed or put in prison.
Northside girl: Criminal Justice 1500 Rule 1 YSU: If you are at the scene of a crime, had prior knowledge of the crime, or actively participated in the crime you are guilty of the crime. Rule 2 if you are found to have lied or hindered the apprehension of an individual you can be charged as well. This goes for all individuals white, black, green, or blue. Rest assured NSG somebody knows who was involved in the murder you have mentioned fact is nobody has spoke out yet. Youngstown seems to except murder as a way of life and many feel no obligation to provide information that would result in an arrest. If you dont believe me ask the family members of Danielle Parker, Anthony Crockett, Christopher Howard, and Marvin Boone. They may never get the answers they want because people refuse to speak out about these homicides.
Semper,
It is appreciated.
As for the rest stating give the race card a rest, i am only pointing out the obvious point stated by blatant racist comment stated that and i quote "their day will come." Who is they? I believe humans are all made of the same genetics, and are all considered to be the same in my eyes, at least. So again, their day? if its their day, it may as well by our day. Humans- all the same. Skin is not historically relevant in any terms. Humans are humans. We have a social responsibility to take care of each other. Again my belief.
I'm only encouraging WE, as in EVERYONE work together and make this a better place.
I don't care of anyone's color or creed. What matters is we all work TOGETHER to end the violence, no matter what. If you feel different- its your opinion/point of view and entitlement.
I will not respond any further- my main point is to say- if you care enough to read and rant about the issues/problems in Youngstown... and you want it to change (big difference here, some people don't care other than saying its wrong and thats it)
then GET OFF OF YOUR BUTT AND DO SOMETHING POSITIVE FOR THE CITY.
Go downtown for dinner, give to the Rescue Mission or St Paul's Kitchen, ANYTHING to put a POSITIVE CHANGE in the city. There are a ton of people waiting for you to chip in- its very easy to find, go to volunteer services (VSA.org) or downtown, we need your help!
Last by not least, Jackrr- i cannot help but respond to you-very good with being antagonistic. Perhaps you may channel that energy to a good cause, help your community out by doing some volunteer work, donating.
Or you could study our history to at least broaden your perspective to see everyone who has immigrated here, including your ancestors fell victim to racism and prejudice. Look up what happened in Youngstown in 1924, if you're of any dissent other than WASP you may feel a tinge of offense to how people were treated and harassed. Similar to what you're doing right now. But again i've wasted a lot of words on you. You will probably enjoy this retort- have fun with it because i'm done responding. Honestly, I'm saddened you feel that way. Maybe one day things will change..
But none the less, please continue to tell me to shut up and get a life- i agree!
I think I'll do just that- get a life helping the city.
The rest of you- i leave to your message board. I hope at least ONE person does something good. Please, we can't sit back and wait on anyone else anymore.
I leave you with this quote.
"Say and do something to change the situation, it doesn't take any brains to complain."
SouthsideY, Every way you listed to help was "giving". Not one was about accountibility, raising standards, and not to tolerate wrong behavior.
If you want to do something positive, why don't you buy one of those cheap houses and tear it down. Give the land to anyone that is willing to build new. We are only talking about a thousand bucks. Start an organization to do things like that. Think what raising 1 million could do to clear the blight.
It sounds like you read Steel Valley Klan. Good book!
Good job YPD. Now we must hope that the process to put this moron on death row is swift and without mistakes.
I heard this morning at my retiree breakfast that his mother is a Cianciala? That sounds like an Italian name to me.
Ah! i have to stop on here- Jeratboy- yes i read and own the book- I love Dr Jenkins.
And i just want to say- you're right- we have to do that part as well- raise our standards of living. I did buy a house by the way, in the City, although its not to tear down but live in. I love it in the city- Youngstown, and I'm keeping an eye on the vacant properties near by and have contacted the Lien Forward program in hopes of the empties next to me becoming mine and doing exactly what you stated- giving the land not to a landlord, but to someone who wants to live in the city, like myself.
SouthsideY, Sounds good. I hope your sucessful.
The lady was leaving church, gunned down for no reason. What reason could the guy have. The money, the jewelry, this is one that better not get away. If he is involved in a gang they are in the know of what he was planning. The leads were made along time ago in the guys life. Mother of Mercy find our weakness and heal these sorry children before this tragedy is repeated. In a situation like this I got no answers just prayer. A complete loss for mankind. How long before the straw is laid on the back of America, with horrors like this happening around the country constantly?
It can't be said enough - thank you YPD! We DO need to support them through voting "yes" for their levies. If Kasich gets in office, it will be even more important for local levies to pass since he plans on cutting funding to local gov'ts (not directly to police but don't think that cutting other programs won't impact $ to go all the way around). Coming together as a community @ the Feb 3 mtg is a great idea (tx for the info). Race bating serves no purpose but adding fuel to the fire of bloggers looking for an "in" for that subject. Can we just stop with the self-defeatest attitude toward Ytown & southside? All is not a lost cause.
Not all young black men dont want to work steal and make some babies. And some of yall sick of people bringing up race but directly saying racial stuff/ indirectly saying it as well. Also just correcting USA it was two people involved in Joe Kaluza becoming disabled.
nunya
When you go out shopping or go out to a restaurant or fast food or any businesses in the area, how many young black men do you see? Next time you go make a note of it and let us no. Well your at it, when your driving, how many young black men are on the streets hanging out or walking down the streets with there underwear showing, hoodies on and talking on the cellphones. Also when driving look next to you and see the pimp cars they drive with the rap music blasting. It's not being racist it's a fact of life.
And with your comment do you really hate the white people? Are you a racist?
@Life2short Do you even you get where I was coming from with the statement not all young black men? I know for a fact some are like that im not naive and don't know what is going on. Where in my comment am I showing hate directly or indirectly towards white people? You can go through all my replies and you will never find anything of me being ignorant right back towards some people on this site. Yeah some people may say something racial on here doesn't mean I have to right back . I have never stooped down that low like some people making stereotypes on black/white/ other backgrounds of people as a whole or a certain gender of people majority of the time on this vindy site. Lastly finishing up my reply I am not racist in anyway I am very friendly and easy to get along with anyone.
nunya
"I know for a fact some are like that im not naive and don't know what is going on."
Some? Sad to say I would say at least 60-80%. I feel bad for the young black men that are trying to do good and do get stereotyped. Not fair to them but until something is done with the violence in the streets they will always be stereotyped.
"Yeah some people may say something racial on here doesn't mean I have to right back ."
And you shouldn't, there are alot of racist (white and black) on here and I just ignore it. It's a losing cause.
"Lastly finishing up my reply I am not racist in anyway I am very friendly and easy to get along with anyone."
All I did was ask a question, and neither am I and I'm the same way. Lifes 2 short to be any other way.
@Lifes2Short
It doesn't matter if some of the young black men stopped and turned their lives around. For that to end it would have to begin with some people bad attitudes on them to change which this type of stuff been going on for years. There is some people just fixed in their own ways to judge a person without knowing them for years. And I didn't understand why I was being asked that question from you from you reading my reply but okay.
Bennie Adams turned his life around and was picked up on his way home from work . Weep not for Bennie but pray for his victims .
http://www4.vindy.com/content/local_r...
Everyone needs to stop talking about his race. I have not noticed his photo yet on line but his mom is a Cianciolla which is Italian unless she was adopted or married to an Italian man before Houser's dad came along
Hope everyone had a good weekend. I needed a break from all the excuses people have on here for young black men being largely useless. Hang out here long enough and anyone would utter words that sensitive ears might consider racist. Enough of the political correctness.
Yeah, Mook is indeed black. Houser is originally a white last name, however there are lots of blacks and mixed race folks with the last name.
Don't believe me? Look at what the Sheriff has to say in booking:
HOUSER, JAMAR A. 02-16-1991 BLACK MALE 2704 VOLNEY ROAD, YOUNGSTOWN 01-30-2010 STATE
CHARGE: #1.00 2903.01 - AGGRAVATED MURDER COURT: YMC0 BOND: SENT:
DISPOSITION: 1 INITIAL
CHARGE: #2.00 2911.01 - AGGRAVATED ROBBERY COURT: YMC0 BOND: SENT:
DISPOSITION: 1 INITIAL
Read it yourself, here:
http://www.mahoningsheriff.com/Inmate...
Now, let's see if anyone comes back and complains about race.
Another out of control young black male who has been on a crime spree along with his father for quite a while.
The jail has space for this guy and people like him. See a lot of federal inmates clogging the county jail. Save room for the locals and keep them.
This guy should have never been out on bail. He shot up a house with people in it.
If you look at my comments on this and related threads, you will see the perp is exactly what I said. Black male 15-25, involved in crime before, known to the police, existing rap sheet, probably has street gang ties.
So much for the concept of crackheads doing such a thing :) Crackheads would pawn a gun on the streets - like I said.
Only thing I couldn't figure out is where the guy lived. Didn't think he'd be over on the other side of Market. That was the only minor surprising point for me.
BTW: The church has 23 cameras. Surely the FBI took the footage and gave it to their analysis / enhancement team to ID this guy.
Perhaps instead of gun shot detection systems, the city should install cameras city wide. Hard to argue you are innocent when you face is right there doing it. Cameras make the best witnesses.
I do not know how to cut and paste. Forgive me. Look at the Mahoning Probate wesbsite and type in his last name and first name and notice results of some probate type of case from 04.

THE VICTIM

@ Paulb I agree with your statement on the cameras but that also is very expensive and there is ways the videos can be messed with with all the technology we have today. But I doubt if they have the right people handling it it would be messed with though.
As per WFMJ's noon broadcast the Mahoning County Prosecutor's office agreed to a reduced bond on his previous weapon's charge. What a huge mistake.
Looks like his father and brother are also on the Mahoning County's inmate list.
"Mahoning County Prosecutor's office agreed to a reduced bond on his previous weapon's charge."
A weapons charge in Mahoning County for these thugs is merely a game . They know from experience that the law will not cause them much pain . Weapons charges are dropped in plea bargaining for far too many cases .
The City Prosecutor's office set the bond at $500,000 on the weapon's charge since he was accused of shooting into an occupied home. The home was occupied by his baby's mother and his child. It wasn't "just" because he had a weapon and the County agrees to a reduced bond???????
Why were all of foxtrot's comments removed, and the racist rants left posted? Is this a racist and possibly anti-semitic newspaper?
Your town is absolute garbage!
It is only fit for goy to live in:
http://foxtrot-youngstownsucks.blogsp...
It's not the black peoples' fault, it's all of these pork-eating goyim who rule this area's fault.
lombardo, it is the fault of the dirtbags that are doing the killing, BROWN, WHITE, RED, YELLOW and ....... BLACK! No one is forcing them to pull the trigger. Sounds like you are part of the problem.
QUIT MAKING EXCUSES!!!
Lombardo, Are you a NAZI?
Lombardo says "It's not the black peoples' fault, it's all of these pork-eating goyim who rule this area's fault".
This is the same statement that lombardo posted word for word in three of the five stories in the "most commented" section.
Somewhat limited on his thought processes I would say or perhaps this was his
"Thought of the day"!!!
lombardo
So it starts with the mayor of Youngstown?
Sounds to me like YOungstown has alot of race rage going on in that city and the crime was a shame....You can blame the boys ethnicity which is half Italian and black like alot of kids are these days....there are hardly any full black or white children anymore...just look around you and you will see. As far as blasting music, caucasian males blast their booming systems just like the black ones and drive fancy cars too...it's not a black thing it's what all the kids and young adults are doing. Instead of people on here fighting about this dumb thing and that dumb thing how about figuring out solutions to the problems going on. It's a shame that it took for an elderly caucasian woman coming out of church getting horribly murdered for the city to finally try and do something about a problem that had been plaguing Ytown long ago. I am glad that I don't live there but I do know some very decent people who live in Ytown and not all folks are bad from there so you really need to stop with the ill opinions and mal-consumptions b/c it is not solving any problems where your city is concerned.
I'm glad I don't live there too.
"As far as blasting music, caucasian males blast their booming systems just like the black ones and drive fancy cars too...it's not a black thing it's what all the kids and young adults are doing."
I agree, but the next time your driving, look around and see who the majority is. I live on 422 at a intersection and in the spring/summer/fall I sit on my porch and see all the cars. And I have no problem with it, but when they wake me up at 3-4am with my windows rattling, it gets a little annoying.....
"Instead of people on here fighting about this dumb thing and that dumb thing how about figuring out solutions to the problems going on."
Who is fighting on here? Like I said it starts with the Mayor, instead of ignoring the problem he needs to make a stand to fight it aka Cleveland,Buffalo, etc mayors.
"I am glad that I don't live there "
Where is this paradise that you live in? Where is this place that don't have no problems and issues. What is your daily newspaper/TV so that I can read the citizens comments about your city? Because I think everyone is looking for that paradise city. And in honestly, it don't exist.
My heart goes out to the victims' family. What a horrible way to lose a loved one!! I pray that they find peace, and the justice that is due them. However, the racist comments I've read on this forum are truly indicitive of the backward attitudes that have existed in this area for as long as I can recall. I've had friends from other traditionaly racist states comment on the great division they witness while in Youngstown. This area is truly sad. Perhaps it's the lack of jobs, or just plain disrespect for ones' fellow man that leaves this town so cold. Whatever the reason, this is a difficult place to live. I find strangers on the streets of New York City much more friendly than the people here. No one returns a smile, or a "hello," folks act as if they absolutely must snub each other. Has anyone thought about the fact that people are more alike than they are different? I've been places where people actually explore other cultures, meet new people, and make life long friends. This seems to be an idea that's far too advanced for Y-town. No wonder our best and brightest young people are leaving here as fast as they can. I think I'll join them.
i think we should vote in his mom and dad for parents of the year also.
Jimmy349 i couldnt agree with you more on that comment.
